What is a nudist ?

FAQ seems appropriate.
I'll submit that a "nudist" is anyone who goes unclothed by choice, and not by neccessity. ( such as a shower or bath )
May be with others, or may not.
A "social nudist" one who goes unclothed by choice along with, or in the presence of others of similar or tolerant persuasion.

What is a nudist ?
Strictly my POV...
A nudist is a person who is aware that the human body is the most marvelous and incredible biological machine in creation, and who understands that there is absolutely nothing shameful, indecent or offensive about it.
A nudist is at one with nature in a way that the clothed cannot grasp. Humans are the only creatures on Earth that find it necessary to conceal their natural beings within an artificial exoskin, and nudists reject that cultural imposition.
A nudist understands that clothing no more makes the man than fur makes the dog or feathers make the bird.
A nudist enjoys the wonderful freedom of living without the illusion that layers of cloth somehow make life moral and worthwhile.
A nudist does not embrace the pretense and the vanity of garments, nor the divisive imagery of class, status, wealth, rank, power and authority that clothing projects.
A nudist condemns the egregious lie that nudity is synonymous with sexuality.
A nudist understands that the nude human body is in fact far less exciting and stimulating than a body that is erotically clothed in garments that give free rein to the imagination.
A nudist is appalled at the equation of nudists with sex offenders when with very few (if any) exceptions the real offenders are textiles.
A nudist shakes his head sadly at the arrant, repugnant hypocrisy of a deviant culture that is monomaniacally obsessed with raw, naked sex, and yet condemns people for choosing to share a lifestyle of non-sexual nudity.
A nudist is one who sees other people solely as people and understands that human bodies are biological shells in which the people live.
A nudist knows that the familar acronymn, "WYSIWYG" (What You See Is What You Get), was a philosophy in nudism long before computer geeks adapted it.
A nudist understands that when one is nude, that person has nothing but his or her personality to show to others.
A nudist knows that a smile, eye contact and a friendly word say much more about a person than a thousand-dollar wardrobe.
And a nudist lives with the reality that the textile world, its head permanently ensconced in its aft aperture, will continue to practice its false religion of lies and illusions and degeneracy and evil, while seeking to destroy the simple, natural lifestyle of people who don't share their self-deception.

Well written and to the point.
I applaud you for this one.

Unclothed when possible. Clothed when necessary.

Told my textile buddy on the golf course today, "Damn, I'd sure like to be nude right now."

I will admit that in the past I have found it irritating, when you pontificate on subjects of which you, admittedly, have no personal knowledge. Case in point is Social Nudism.
I don't claim to write from experience on such topics, but rather based on what I have read here and on many other sites. One thing I have never done in my many decades of life is become involved in something without learning as much as possible about it. I've even read your posts on the subject.
That being said, your acidulous affront a couple of weeks ago almost drove me off the site, and made me rethink my intent to become a social nudist if that was what I could expect from the "oldies". But in retrospect, you didn't challenge what I posted, but only that it was I who posted it.
Well written and to the point. I applaud you for this one.
The comment is noted. I have printed it out on this special paper...

... and it shall be used at an appropriate time.
Dear Sr.
Though I dont know the history between you tow:
The hole concept of posting in forms is to have an exchange of ideas and views.
Nudman: what expected of new integrants in the real nudist world is just 4 things:
1. Be nude
2. Respect the privacy of others.
3. Be nice
4. Dont get happy
Thats it, the rest? Both in cyber world and in real world ( nude or not ) youll find people you like and have in common with and people who you cant stand.
If they are nude at the moment or not , totally not the issue!
So what goes in this here between you and one or another poster ( is that a word? ) is just opinion exchanging. Not more. No need to take it to the toilet.

Still, I like this presentation. It says something I'd not yet thought much about, though have believed.

I can appreciate the sentiment, however......
In my mind, this describes a decent human being, regardless of how they may dress.
As such, I'm not sure it fits as a definition of a nudist ? ( though it may well be an apt description of one facet for some, perhaps many )

ON SOCIAL NUDISM
Social nudism can run the gambit from a skinny dip with friends or neighbors in the pool or hot tub to a stay at at a clothing optional resort or full time membership at a landed nudist club.
I have been a social nudist before many of you were born. I say this not to come across as the Elder Statesman of Nudism ( though elder is certainly accurate) but to admit that I am open to some new insights. Upon joining site, I began to read posts from the closet nudists and those who enjoyed being nude in their home or own yard. In my closed mind, I did not believe that these solitary nudists had the right to call themselves nudists or True Nudists. I felt they were just some nuts that liked to run around naked. Yes, I chose the word naked over nude.
What it took to turn me around on this concept was a warm summer night. I climbed out of the hot tub. Need I say, nude? I grabbed a beer, propped my feet up on the table and sat there allowing the warm summer breeze to dry me off. I sipped the beer, gazed up at the starry sky and simply relaxed. It was at that moment I realized how wonderful it felt to just sit and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. I reevaluated my opinion of the solitary nudists who might or might not, someday become social nudists.
It took that evening to personally experience the joy of solitary nudism.
Though I have been around for awhile and my views are based upon personal experience, I would not presume to give definitive advice on social nudism. Every individual venturing into social nudism is unique as is their mindset. A married couple may try nudism and each may come away with a different perception. Some may go to look, some may go to display, some may feel its naughty and some may go to show how liberated they are. Hopefully, the majority will go to enjoy a healthy lifestyle with others who believe its not shameful to be in mixed company without clothing.
Those who go to look will soon become bored. Nudity is not sexy. Those who go to display will become disenchanted because no one cares. Those who feel that its naughty are disappointed because its not what they thought. Those who go to prove that they are liberated will find the only liberation is from the misconceptions of general society. Once integrated into nudism, all may find its a life which they may like to live as nudists.
Does this mean that we are suddenly one homogeneous group. Of course not. Those who are misfits in textile society are likely to be misfits in nudist society. Those who are outgoing and gregarious in textile society are likely to quickly make new nudist friends as are those that participate rather than stand on the sidelines and observe. Social nudity has its share of ill tempered malcontents, though, a much smaller minority that the textile world. They can be tolerated or ignored.
Entering social nudity may be likened to a plunge into a cool pool. First the shock, then the invigoration and joy.

RE: What is a nudist ?

Let's get back to the topic.
A nudist is a person who prefers to be naked, but goes naked only when either in private or with other similarly inclined persons. And it is non-sexual.
