The internet has probably done a lot to hurt nude beaches. The nude beaches were easier to find so more people went there for many reasons other than being nude. Nude beaches are all public beaches so a person could not be forced to disrobe. Only a private location can enforce a no clothing rule. The secret is out on a lot of these places and there's very little we nudists can do about it except to visit the beaches and continue to be nude.
This is true. The internet and digital cameras EVERYWHERE (we are now starting to see drones hovering above nude beaches) have both contributed to the loss of nude beaches. Unfortunately, many nudists, especially women, just decide it's not worth the effort and stop coming, and then a beach quickly starts its decline into textilism. What is really discouraging is college kids. SLO must be a very liberal college, like most, and yet the students are SO uptight these days. What the hell happened? Aren't your college years when you break out and try new things?
I say make ALL beaches EVERYWHERE, WORLDWIDE100% nudist only beaches. If you want to enjoy the beach, learn to enjoy it NUDE. Anyone who has ever been nude on a nude beach knows how much more enjoyable it is. So this would make the ones who like to go in a swimsuit, be more willing to give it a shot at being nude just to be on a beach again. Then they would see it's not really that bad. This would apply to all beaches along the coast, as well as any on inland lakes and rivers. If you set foot on a beach, you better be undressing within the first ten feet or face getting arrested and thrown in jail. Even Law Enforcement showing up at the beach to arrest someone for non-compliance would have to be nude after getting 10 feet onto the beach. If more people were to give outdoor nudism a try then the ranks of nudists would increase exponentially, and it would get to be more socially acceptable planet wide.
If your going to dream, I say dream BIG.
I was at Hanlans in Toronto a few times this past summer of 2014. On the Clothing Optional side, it appeared that on the few weekends I went there were likely 50% nude and 50% textile. During the week, the ratio was more nude but still no where near 100%.
So you're okay with forced nudity? I'm not.
But your OK with forced clothedness? That's what it is when they tell you, you CAN'T go nude on the beach. Forced to wear clothes.
No, I'm not okay with being forced to wear clothes. I wish we lived in a society where we had the option to be naked or not. Right now, we at least do have some beaches that we can be naked at, and the clothed people can be clothed at their beaches. NAH NAH - You started it!

Right now, we at least do have some beaches that we can be naked at, and the clothed people can be clothed at their beaches. It's not forced nudity anyways. Nobody is forcing them to go to the beach. It's just if you do go to the beach, you can't have on clothing. This might put the hurt on the swim suit industry, but they way over charge for the little bit of fabric they are selling anyway. Take a look at the price of a swim suit and the amount of material in it, compared to the price of say, a pair of blue jeans, and the amount of material in them and you will see what I mean.
As usual, lots of good and differing points of view. Unfortunately, also posts that get personal and nasty. Please don't. Be nice. That's all. Everyone is different and someone with a different point of view is just that, a person with different point of view. Let's just be nice. We're nude after all.
Just say'n.
In my opinion, clothing optional beaches are one way the nudist movement can grow. If enough nudists can be seen relaxing, unashamed by textiles, nudity would become commonplace. Once commonplace, any stigma would disappear and others would be temped to join in.
