RE: life jacket/ vest

i have a kayak vest or thats what it was sold as and was probably one of my most expensive investments, i have been boating since i was5 or so and my first boat i bought was at 18 and had alway had one of those orange everyone has one life jacket but when i bought my kayak i didn't see the safety level of my bigger boat so i thought this was necessary. on my sit in kayak i'm comfortable in calm water without the life jacket but ruff water i will wear it. canoe i wear it calm or not , i may change as i get more comfortable - we'll see. only time i rolled my kayak i was at ramp in a foot of water and swam to shore lol.

I also have a kayak, or paddlers, vest. Seldom wear it except when in rough water either on a river or lake. Some areas require that you be wearing flotation of some sort, but I consider that as an infringement. My vest usually rides under one bungee at the front of the cockpit where I can grab it quickly if necessary.

Most of my kayaking is done on a quiet inland lake. I like to be Naked... not wearing anything. I am a good swimmer, the water is calm (exept an occcasional wake), so naked it is. But I have one just behing my seat. It will float free if I capsize. For coast guard purposes it is in the boat with me.

on my kayak i have it bungee to front deck and one yank frees it but its not easy putting a life jacket on in water but i know i can use it as a float cushion just as easy.
