why not? i use my canoe primarily for fishing in the marsh along the gulf coast and i stand and cast quite often to stretch my legs and look for signs of fish. if you have a good sense of balance and don't put all your weight on one side, there's no reason that you cannot stand in a canoe.
If you look-up the word 'clutz' in a dictionary, you will see MY PHOTO there beside it.... ;~)
I have a couple pairs of those tear away warm-up pants with the snaps down the side which I have cut off into shorts. I wear these to the put in and when I launch. Once I'm far enough from the crowds, I unsnap the sides & fold down the front. Instant nudity. When I get close to people, I can lay the front back in my lap, and when it's time to get out I just re-snap the sides (this sometimes takes a bit of wriggling about).
