SCNA's Pool Party at the Zorthian Ranch
This past weekend the Southern California Naturist Association (SCNA) hosted a great party at a very special
location, not only for our members, but for other local non-landed clubs, Naturists in the OC (NitOC), and the Camping Bares from San Diego, some of who both came up to join us for a wonderful day!
We had close to 50 nudists who took over the Zorthian Ranch for our last Pool Party of the year.
The Zorthian Ranch is a 48-acre mountainside artist's enclave
alternately described by some as an Art Utopia and an Art Junkyard by others that is still used for fashion and movie shoots.
Due to its unique architectural features, sculptures, and topography it has been the scene of many legendary parties and musical events over the years including the New LA Folk Festival. The Ranch was the life work of the late Jirayr Zorthian (1911-2004) dubbed The Last Bohemian, a joyous, vibrant artist with a prodigious appetite for life, whose 42 WPA-era
murals adorn Federal buildings from the Pentagon to Post Offices, and whose sensual nudes still breathe on canvas.
Many of his sculptural works are on display along with the horses, llamas, goats, and chickens that live there also.
C'mon now, how many of you have llamas that visit your party!
We took over the pool area, the Plaza Del Primavera, where we BBQ'd and had a tasty pot luck,
all overseen by the Deck Of Zorbachus, a unique stage, where we had a DJ spinning tunes all day long.
Those who weren't sunning, dancing, or eating in the Plaza, were enjoying the pool in what turned out to be a perfect sunny Southern California day, not too hot (85 F) and not too cool.
At some point almost everyone took the opportunity to stroll the grounds and take in the
artwork and amazing structures that exist throughout the property.
Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves, and the SCNA will definitelyhave another event there next year!
