Local Breweries
Work has me traveling thruout Washington state quite a bit. In the last 18 months, I have stayed in:
Astoria, OR. The Fort George Brewery
Kennewick WA. The Ice Harbor Brewery
Republic, WA. The Republic Brewery
Kettle Falls, WA. The Northern Brewery.
For the next several weeks, I am in Port Townsend, WA which has the impressive Port Townsend Brewery.
I think it is the cool damp climate here in the Pacific Northwest which makes those IPAs, Porters and Pale Ales go down so good.
Is there any other region of the US that is blessed with such bounty? I think not.If so, I will point my motorbike that direction next summer. If you can't be naked, drinl ale!
There are few local and "handmade" breweries here in Spain, specially around the mediterranean area. It's nice to travel and taste some different and special beers depending of where are you located. I like to taste every local beer I can find where I travel, specially abroad. And the most strange and unknown brand I found, the first I like to try! He heIs always nice to try new flavours and textures, as well as new experiences!
Bermanes: I always ask 'What's local?' Sometimes, I am happily surprised, often not. I guess I have alwaysassumed that the beer would be better in Europe.
Also, the pot is fresher, the women are prettier, the cars and motorcyclesare faster. Certainly, I expect the drivers to be more competent.Hope to find out for myself someday.
I saw something ammusing in my village pub in Yorkshire in the UK. Amongst the specialist beers I saw bottles of Sagres beer. That was something we baught by the trayfull from a supermarket not far from the town of Sagres on the South West tip of Portugal.
Well now, think again. Just 2 states over in Montana we have 28-30 breweries with some of the best beers I've tasted. My current favorite is Pig's Ass Porter from Harvest Moon Brewery in Belt,MT. That replaced Big Sky Brewery's Moose Drool as my next favorite.
Here are some links to give you an idea of where to point that bike.

Bill: Montana is one of my favorite states. Lots of wide open and not quite so many people to annoy me. Two things that influence the route I choose are breweries and naked hot springs or resorts.
I have yet to ride across the north of Montana on US 2 nor have I ridden over Bear Tooth Pass into Wyoming. A good brewery along the route just might make it happen!
