Posting Photo in Chat Room

I tried to post a photo from my profile gallery in the chat room and I was banned. I couldn't copy the photo from my gallery because it wouldn't transfer over to the chat form. Then I tried to copy the photo link to the chat room and the link transferred but I got immediately banned. The photo was accepted into my profile so I assume it was OK to use in the chat room. I'm guessing links cannot be used? Anyway would anyone be able to tell me how people show photos in the chat room that are in their profile? Thanks. Cheers
