Social media is killing nudism
As a real irony, I read here the TN Youtube account has been taken down, on the very same day that I also watched a back episode of SBS Insight regarding social media content - who's making it and who's buying it.
The cancellation of the TN Youtube channel does not surprise me whatsoever. There is a continual push to sanitise social media from material that is porn (truly it is in most cases) and soliciting. By and large the greater population have themselves to blame as those seeking sexual gratification could dial up 'material' anytime they wanted. And this is to say nothing of the 'innocent' finding material accidentally. So, yes this is a good outcome.
This sanitisation of course started with the likes of Insta taking down uncensored pics of nude people and that of course meant FB were doing the same. All others progressively have followed suit and of course we know Youtube are now doing the same. When you Google search nude (and related words), most any image that is considered outside social norms is pixelated. Here in TN I believe new members cannot even post nude pics...
This dynamic of course has meant that portals such as pornhub are free to exploit this niche. While its not really social media, it kind of is. While I am not a consumer of this site I do think its a good thing as it delineates between porn and nudity.
But my headline is that social media is killing nudism, and this is simply because nudism in its non-sexual form was starting to be normalised as an outcome of social media. All the wider used platforms had some content that was simply nudism. Now the clock is being turned back on us. It's also running in parallel with an increasing number of clothing optional beaches having their CO status taken back.
So, if you're seeking true social media for nudists where can you go?
Only Fans seems to be somewhere to go, but from what I can establish from watching Insight, its content is getting closer to the Hustler magazines of my youth and is therefore porn (??). Competing sites to TN such as Justnudism are also behind a paywall and are comparatively much more expensive. Association and club pages are far from being real social media too and in many cases are so old they look and work like pages we had back before the dot com bubble burst.
So where too from here? What's our communities 'go to' social media that portrays us in the best way and continues to help normalise nudism for the greater population?

Here's an idea - maybe you're already here? Just because we are seeing the stifling and end of most nude content on some of the bigger platforms doesn't mean it's going away. True Nudists is very, very far away from a perfect forum for the promotion of nudism, but it's here, along with a few other reputable sites where open discussion and sharing can occur without the under-girding of pornographic intent.
On the other hand, with doom and gloom about the subject aside, nothing on the internet will ever 'kill' nudism. It may seem like it for folks who are deeply attached to social media, but try to not mistake the idiocy of the internet as the real world. You're likely trapped in The Matrix. The only pill you need take to get out of it is to put away your 'smart' phone away once you've found a real place to be out in the sun without your trousers on, preferably around others who are similarly un-attired, or even alone. Nudism and naturism is thriving, but not if you've gotten stuck in the idea of only looking for other nudists online. That naked death-rattle sound you may be hearing is not true, it's not social, and it's not really nudism - it may be the sound of the end of something that would be a healthy thing for mankind and the nudist community. Long before there was a Facebook, nudists found ways to meet and share their ideas on subjects and activities which they shared an interest in. Join us in the literal world!

I don't disagree with your sentiment about getting off the device and actually enjoying the real world of the nude community. I certainly do my share of that and love it entirely.
I also take the view that social media is not the be all to end all. However, denying its integration into all 'interest communities' is a false economy. While its not the only thing any interest community needs to do, it certainly is something they need to do. In our case it needs to be done well and convey all the right messages if we want our community to continue to grow and get greater rights to be nude in more places.
My view that nude community needs good social media platforms is also mostly not just about a potential pure absence of them, but in the wake of their absence others will fill the void who do not help our community at all and ostensibly turn the general population against us.
While the popular and broad spread social media platforms were happy to have nude folks displayed on their platforms our community was growing at a rate that was perhaps the fastest since the 1960's.
Why? because through those platforms it was being seen as part of the acceptable mainstream general population culture, not just hidden away at places and in forums where the general public has no line of sight!
Social media can never reflect real world naturism.
Its either so heavily moderated that it only allows the opinion of the people running it, or its a total free for all like TN that allows any kink to be promoted as naturism. It also allows for anyone to create a persona that might wish they were naturists but havent actually experienced it for real and just make stuff up.
The most accurate way to experience social naturism is to visit naturist places. Not gyms, not spas, actual places when nudity is the norm.

It's always good to blame the medium. The new one is the best fit. No, legislation is killing it. Look at the bills restrictions and closures. Not social media. But I would encourage you to examine the content and the way membership is constituted to figure out if you are actually in a nudist community because I don't think this place is.
MeWe is an uncensored social media site with a few channels dedicated to non-sexual nudism.
And the content moderation is the result of Patriot 1 & 2 plus Trump's Anti Trafficking legislation. It is a restricted regime that has been used to fine companies multi millions. That is why content is so moderated. There was a disaster in privacy and due process and the eliminated habeas corpus in digital media entirely. No right to privacy no right to have a warrant for search of digital media. The government can look at everything that is online and use it in criminal cases which are according to a very restricted range of possibilities makes nudes potentially criminal. Youtube is Google and they have been aggressive with content for 3 or 4 years now. They had massive fines earlier. The media are irrelevant.
A lot of essay length responses to point out all the reasons why nudism is not growing and what nudism really is; but not addressing social medias role in growth or contraction of our community.
Can we all agree that TN is not a social media platform!
It's a community portal. While like social media it's available to everyone except the real content is only available to those who pay.
As mentioned in my other comments it's also not mainstream. Most of the population have never heard of it!

True, but TN promotes itself by claiming to be the biggest social nudist community with over 200,000 members.
Well it did when I first became aware of it, and its why we decided to join, to interact and engage with other nudists.
Soon discovered that number was mostly made up of people who have no idea what real world nudism or naturism actually is because this site is the only experience they have.

As to where to go from here one word - the Fediverse there are several nudist friendly communities in the social media space commonly known as Mastodon. Initially seen as a replacement for Twitter Mastodon is really just a main entry point to a much larger network of decentralized communities. The beauty of a decentralized but interconnected network is no big Corp get to set the rules and steal your data.
Each community in Fediverse sets its own rules and if I dont want to see certain stuff then I just dont join communities with that content. I also have much more control of who get to see what I post. PeerTube is the equivalent of YouTube and Friendica is the FB equivalent PixelFed is similar to Instagram and Flickr for photo sharing. New social media platforms like Threads and Bluesky are adopting the decentralized model and using the same protocols to be able to talk to each other. Recently I used software to link my website to the Fediverse so I can help to built the Nudiverse there without worrying about getting canceled shawdow banned or deleted.

In the U.S. places to practice naturism outdoors and in real life are also decreasing. Three nudist venues have either converted to clothing required resorts or are at risk of going that way from sale of property in and many months. All this in the second largest state for nude recreation California. Things are looking dire in the Midwest where laws going through the legislature have the potential to outlaw all social nudity options in that state.
So getting out real life in person naturism could get a lot harder for Americans in years to come.
