Nude Hiking
We do a lot of nude hiking (sometimes just topless depending on the area). We both love the feeling of being in the great outdoors nude. The places we go are public places so the chance of getting caught is always there. We are very careful because we don't want to offend anyone. Most of the places are in county parks, state parks, and greenbelt areas. We always carry along a piece of clothing to slip on quickly as needed. Anyway, we have got caught a few times but luckily the people who saw us didn't seem to mind.
Great approach to enjoying hiking with the best possible attire (none). Your approach is the same as mine, thogh I choose places where scrambling to get covered is not needed. Nude hiking is my overall favorite activity.
What are state and local laws in Iowa? Where I live in New Hampshire, there are restrictionsand public nudity can generate a fine or jail time. In Massachusetts to the south, it's worse where one can be labeled a sex offender. Fortunately, in Vermont to the west of me about an hour, nudity is generally accepted and, with the exception of a few local ordinances, completely legal (or, at least not illegal).
Louisiana has vast tracts of forests, offering many hiking opportunities. None are clothing optional. I have learned to pick my times and decide if I need an emergency cover. No vehicles in the parking area usually means I will take no cover. If I do, I use a small wrap with Velcro on the side, similar to a very short kilt, with each side split up to the waist. It barely covers the essentials but gives superior freedom of movement. Depending on the trail I am at dictates whether I wear foot protection; I never carry a backpack and love to be out on the trail in nothing. I have been caught once by a couple who came up behind me. After realizing they were there, I insisted they please proceed as I stopped to take in the view. They did, and all was well as they continued.
In Arizona there is lots of National Forests around, so its not illegal ! But if someone complains, you have to.
We have a couple areas where most people know there will be nude hiking and sunning. But yes some people push it in the wrong way. But then we are always surprised that people dont understand.
Dang it sucks that people aren't more aware of the clothing rules in national forests like that.
I have been jogging nude periodically for awhile now. This past month (6/2025) has been nothing but nude runs in the morning. I have run past 2 people now completely naked. I have decided im not going to waste my time stopping to put on shorts unless they have a headlamp. It's dark when I go run so I am no longer worried about someone else without lights possibly catching a glimpse.

It sounds like you're up so early that you're more likely to run into people who've been up all night. So the chance of them being too drunk and tired to notice you're naked is big. If not, only people like you with a high level of discipline and purpose would be out, likely to respect you and your values. Look at it this way: it's so early that all the people who'd care you're naked are sleeping along with the rest of us.
