Another follow up appointment . . . ughhhhhhhhh

You guessed it, another @#%*! follow up appointment. I think the doc*s trying to fill out his appointment schedule! Its not really a big deal as my health is usually described as great but he was / is concerned about cholesterol levels and wants me to take pills & come back in six months with new blood work. . . bah-humbug!! Well contemplate the pills & push / ride the lawnmower, trim lots of bushes, dig my new drainage ditch (by hand) and not worry about exercise. I suspect I*ll hear the same dialogue in six months. How about you folks, are you getting the same routine?

I am a bit opposite. I had a doctor that had me coming in once or twice a month as she tried to fashion a drug cocktail to lower my blood pressure. When she left the clinic I was going to, the next Dr. Only wanted to see me for an annual Q and A. I was dumbfounded that I had to pay for a physical but had the same exam I was getting on a monthly biases before.

Changed to a managed care plan thinking that I would get a full physical but it was exactly the same. Question and then listening to my heart and lungs. If I hadnt asked about some other issues, she would have said, See you in a year.

I hope you beat the pill pushers

I see our PMD once, sometimes twice a year. Thankfully, she's not a prescription pill pusher but a supplemental, diet-controlled pusher. If it weren't for my wife going to the same doctor, I'd be a mess. Our doctor, who my wife fondly refers to as Dr. Malibu Barbie, is not keen on having us take a lot of prescription meds. We are on a lot of supplements and my wife does her best to keep me on a mostly veggie diet, but the Dr. also says it's okay for me to cheat now and then. I maybe have a steak or any kind of red meat about twice a month.

I'm Type 2 Diabetic so she likes to get my blood work done twice a year. We are on Medicare but have supplemental medical insurance thru my previous employer. I did go and visit Dr. Barbie every couple of months for about 2 years. That was brutal only because it was time consuming. She's quite popular and began her day 45 minutes behind schedule. I'm not a very good waiting patient. But she got my A1C down from the low 9's to 6.5. That's huge. I stil fluctuate between 7-7.5. She's less concerned about me now that I've evened out.

I like Dr Barbie. My original Dr. did want me to see a nutritionist but my work life keeps me from being able to meal prep the way she suggested. I do like that she prescribed a natural diet for you rather than the statin I am on as a pre diabetic aLso in the 7s.

I was put on Atorvastatin (Lipitor) for cholesterol for about 7 years. I had gotten open leg sores on my shins along with dizziness at times. It should be kept in mind that atorvastatin may also adversely contribute to erectile dysfunction. But that is still up in the air. But I can tell you from my viewpoint that it is true, at least for me. As soon as I was taken off of Atorvastatin my open leg sores healed up along with the dizziness. But unfortunately my ED did not get better. After I came off the drug my cholesterol went way up which was excepted.

I was then put on Leqvio injection and it drop my cholesterol down 100 points. Lucky I have Medicare which paid more of it and my 2nd Ins. paid what was left. I know that some people have no problems with Atorvastatin but it looked like I had the side effects. We need to look at the side effects of all the drugs that are being prescribed to us. And ask Questions.

RE: change your diet. Take charge of your own health

"bah humbug" is right. Quit taking all the pharmacoepia. Get thy-self a juicer and start drinking raw beet and carrot juices. Not a lot... just a couple cupfulls per day. extracted right on the spot, from fresh good quality beets and carrots. As the Nitrous Oxide in your blood goes up, all those side-effects will disappear.
REAL MILK would be an improvement, too. Fresh raw milk from healthy cows

WRT statins, it's my opinion they are overused.

24 years ago, I suffered a major stroke -- caused by a small piece of plaque breaking loose in a carotid artery -- causing a blockage downstream near a part of my brain. Since that time, I've been on blood thinners. Originally, the Doc had me on statins too. But my energy level was so low, I couldn't stand it!

After 2 years of this, my "bad"reading was down from 202 to 105, but my quality of life had suffered in the same proportion!

"100" was the goal, but during my next "follow-up" the Doc said that medical community had changed the goal to 60! So, with all the politeness I could muster, I told the Doc NO. Turns out, I had taken myself off statins months before, and traded 2 or 3 soft drinks a day for water and G2. Did I change my diet? No -- not one bit! (Always has a balanced diet anyway.)

I've been OK for about 22 years now, thank you. Off statins since 2001! My readings average about 150, but I do feel better and stronger. Life is good -- even with the deficiencies resulting from the original stroke. I consider myself lucky to be around -- to be living happily ever after as I march slowly toward the hereafter, Lol.

But wait! There a rich irony to all this! Stats show that about half of the people with heart/vascular issues have "High Cholesterol." Half do -- means half don't!!! Go figure....

Heck I have been on Cholesterol lowering meds for the past 20 years at least. I have my blood checked twice a year but the doctors only give you a 6 month prescription. Last year on went the blood pressure meds. Guess it catches up with age, lol. I hate it but oh well, I do my best and my wife lets me know when I am not eating correctly. Maybe that and the wine I like, lol.
