ten years since my exposure
It was 10 years ago today that the prep nurse surprised me. I was expecting for him to shave off my few chest hairs prior to my open heart surgery. But was totally shocked when he tossed aside my gown and took off my pubes and the hairs on my legs " Just in case the doc needs access" when I pressed as to why. The new heart valve went in smoothly and the doc need not need access through my groin to the big artery nor did he need a vein from my leg to do a bypass.
I had the same experience 10 years ago this May. I had a female nurse however and she took everything clean. This was good because I ended up with a triple bypass and they needed the leg. They didn't need the groin area though at this time. That came just a couple years ago so I had another set of nurses, female, do the same thing: through back the gown and shave away. In the cath lab I was greeted by 3 nurses, a PA and a male nurse while I was on a heated blanket totally uncovered. Stayed that way until I woke up and had recovered enough to be taken to my room. I had to stay overnight. When back to the room they transferred me to my bed and asked if I wanted to put my gown on, I said not necessarily. They said ok not a problem just call if you need to go to the bathroom as you need assistance for the next several hours to make sure you don't get dizzy and fall.
thanks for the story. I had a pacemaker added 5 days later . My biggest concern was being knocked out again. I did not like coming out from
being under. But they only gave me something to relax me to insert the pacemaker. . I was aware of everything going on in the room. But was a bit loopy. I asked the doc why he built a flea market on my chest. When he followed up with me post surgery he said he got a chuckle out of that. The guy from the pacemaker company said i had the room in stitches . I do remember asking the question
Five years later when the pacemaker needed replaced. I was again surprised by the prep nurse. This time it was not just him and I in a private room. Instead i was in the OR room . The doc had told me that because of the type of pacemaker and my condition, he might need to do a temporary pacemaker while he swapped out the regular one. He mentioned that the recovery time would be 4 hours instead of 2 but I did not press him for more info. So they had shaved my few chest hairs off before wheeling me into the OR. But once in there with about a half dozen personal milling about the prep nurse said he would prep me in case the doc needed to do the temp pacemaker. THen he pushed aside my own and discreetly took off my pubes. He assured me he would keep me covered. I told him do not worry about it. But wondered why again I lost my pubes. Just after he did that the doc came in and said. I will not be doing the temp pacemaker. I joked with the room and said. " well i guess i will have a new look for the nude beach next month in Australia" which was not a drug induced random phrase. I really did have plans to hang out at a nude beach outside of Perth the next month. I did some reserach post surgery and found out to do temp pacemaker they go up thru the groin just like doing a heart cath. The pacemaker is about due to be replaced again 5 year battery life is it.
We will see what kind of exposure happens this time
If you don't normally shave body hair, how did it feel when your hair began to grow back.
After my first hernia operation, I got a better understanding of my grandfather saying when I was misbehaving "You're going to itch where you can't scratch"!
