are you happy with your kayak or canoe

are you happy with the kayak or canoe you own or do you wish you would have purchased a different boat ?

RE: are you happy with your kayak or canoe

i like my kayak - a old town vapor 10 it tracks great has a large cockpit and isn't to heavy but if i had to do it over again i think i would have purchased a sit on instead and the reason is that i'm not as young and easily bendable and iit seems a little harder since last year and i presume it will get harder as time passes. with i sit on you just climb on ,now i not sure if it it is a sturdy since a sit in you sit lower and the boat appears more balanced. i gues i need to be rich enough to own both than of course i want a canoe to. oh and the other day when i got to nude cove ( yes i named it) i wish i had a sit on than it could be more of a lounge chair when sunbathing rather than the sit in even though the cockpit is large its still not a lounge chair.

I like my 12 ft Native WaterCraft Ultimate. Is is actually a kayak/canoe hyprid. Much like an open faced kayak. It has no cockpit. It has a double trough hull, Like a transmission humb down the middle. It is stable enough to carefully stand in. I and the dog fit within its 300 lb weight limit. I can set up my tripod and camera in it with one short leg in the middle and two longer legs in the lower sections. I can grip it with my knees if need be.

It has sockets for fishing rod holders. Here you see the safety flag I made to use whenever I am in a heavily trafficed area of the lake. I have camoflaged everything to help with nature photography. Thus I am not very visible and need the flag at times.

Old Town Derigo

Wife and I have Old Town Derigo, REC boats. Great for the rivers here in MI. FOr the Grt Lakes I would prefer a touring boat, but ours a very stable and fine for our use. Good to fish from too. And good through ClassII rapids. Class III maybe...LOL

I have a Ocean Kayak Drifter I fish out of reguarly and i love it.The only problem I had with it was the tank well was a little small but with a few pieces of pvc pipe I fixed that problem. I would like to get anothe kayak, when I get the money to do so, but I will still keep my drifter.

My wife and I each purchased 14' Wilderness System Pungos 3 yeras ago. They are great boats for the lakes here in ne PA and we've had a lot of fun with them. Unfortunately, last summer my wife had back surgery (she's fine now) but the Doc said no more kayak for her because apperantly the sitting position with legs straight out is a no no for her now so she hasn't been on the water since last year. I get out with mine when our son visits as he also has a kayak. But he told her a canoe is ok because it's more like sitting in a chair. So we just ordered two Mad River Freedom Solo canoes and are looking forward to hitting the water with them. I'm keeping my yak and we're going to sell hers. But one of these days I'd like to get a faster touring kayak.

natravellers sorry to hear about your wife's surgery and not being able to kayak but at least she has the option of a canoe, are you going to use a regular paddle or stick with the double kayak paddle ? i have run into alot more canoer's using the double paddle now.

Hi Gabare, we're going to try and get the hang of the J stroke with the single paddle but will probably keep the yak paddles in the canoe in case ( or more likely when lol) we get frustrated. A friend of ours also has a canoe and all he usus is a kayak paddle.
