Whos going whole hog - possibly literally?
I was just thinking about being here in the country & having to buy eggs; can you believe the prices? Not only that but beef, chicken, pork; its all gone crazy. I have several acquaintances that have added chickens, goats, cows & pigs to their yard critters, all to save a few bucks and make a few bucks. I have thought about chickens & rabbits but just checked into costs. I hear chickens, goats, turkeys & cows most every morning so my neighbors have them thats a fact. I know it never works perfectly & have no desire to replicate Green Acres but is anybody working on raising farm critters?
We live out in the country on 5 secluded acres. Great for being nude outside most of the time. We have had chickens for years. We have 2 goats that help with the mowing LOL. Ive raised cattle here also wild and domestic turkeys. Nothing like meat humanely raised and harvested fresh.
Nowadays my goats are just yard ornaments and my chickens all have names and are just egg laying pets.

Raising your own animals definitely has some benefits and if I had plenty of land I may consider it for myself. However, I'm still traumatized (LOL) from my childhood days. We had dogs, pigs, goats, cows, a mule and a pony. My father is 20 years older than me so by the time I was 7, he had assigned chores to me concerning these animals. When I got 12, he took another position at work and began to work a swing shift. In turn, this caused me to be more responsible for the keeping of the animals because a lot of problems arose in the afternoon and nights. It seemed that the dogs were the only animals that knew where they were supposed to be when the sun went down. I can't count how many times I was chasing these animals around the neighborhood in the rain at night time trying to get them back in the pen or attached to a rope/chain. Now I know some of you are probably saying we shouldn't have had them tied up, but that's how we rolled back then in the community where we lived.
Ironically, one of my female friends just told me last week that she has chickens and should be able to share eggs with us next month. I never would have imagined her with a farm animal but she has them and a garden now. We all do what we have to do in order to survive or have the things we desire!
