Since most of my socialising with other men is in a nudist situation, I'm used to seeing both extremes of the size variation.
My closest friends encompass the small to very large. Of course large penises always attract attention, but my experience is that it's soon forgotten about, and is no longer the centre of attention.
I remember being a kid of around 7 when my dad would take me to the YMCA with him. I thought it was great because I got to go into the men's locker room as opposed to the boys. I would wander around the locker room exploring while my dad was swimming laps. I went into the sauna, and inside was a black man sitting completely nude on the bench. It didn't occur to me until years later that getting stares was probably a very common experience for him and that's why he wasn't phased.

I've had almost the exact same happen to me, although my experience happened inside a sauna at a indoor swimming centre.
Everyone inside the sauna cracked up about the question. Not sure who felt the most embarressed, me or the father of the child asking the question.
I guess it is normal to look/ admire at a larger penis. Mine is not overly thick but quite long when flaccid. I enjoy the attention it can bring. I was close friends with a couple. His cock was thick but maybe shorter. I remember being envious.

Well, obviously if you have a large penis...you deserve and receive plenty of compliments on your penis size. Raymond, you just brought back some forgotten Fraternity memories too. Men just naturally want to know how we measure up and I'm 100% sure you had several brothers doing a double and triple take on your impressive package too. The YMCA steam room and sauna is where I really began to realize that straight men also like to check out other penises and sometimes stare. I'm cut and where I live now, most penises are uncut, so I get plenty of stares because it isn't the norm down here.
My fraternity house also had a gang shower so everyone saw everyone. Saturday evenings before parties, several of us would gather and drink beer, taking turns to use the 8 shower nozzles. And yes, many of us had nicknames which were used in public. Mine was "Red" because of my pubes.
