Caught while on naked night walk
Going for early morning naked night walks around our suburban neighborhood is something that I find incredibly exhilarating and have been doing for a few summers. I have been seen a couple of times and these encounters where pretty much non eventful and added to the exhilaration. Last fall I had a very different encounter. It was about 4:30 in the morning and I decided to go for a nude walk around our crescent and through a parking lot by a park at the end of our crescent street. I left the house completely naked (including bare feet) as I had done many times before and started walking down the street to the parking lot where I was going to turn around and come back home. I did not want to go much farther because it was later than the 2:30 am time when I would typically go for longer nude night walks and I knew the sun would be coming up soon. On this occasion, I got to the end of our crescent to the parking lot area for the park and noticed a car and some people coming down the street toward where I was. I was able to take cover, but knew something was off and that the people driving and coming down the street where not just going about their own business as they were looking around in all directions when they got to the end of the street like they were trying to find something or someone. The vehicle did a u-turn and began driving into the parking lot and the people walking also started down a path leading to where I was taking cover. I really had no place to go and knew I was caught so I stood up and began walking back out of the parking lot to go home . The person driving approached me and recognized me. He called out and asked if I was drunk or if there was something wrong given my state of undress - the people who were walking were behind me and were watching our encounter with me standing there completely nude under the parking lot lights. I said I was fine and that I just enjoyed going for nude night walks. He indicated that I needed to go home or that he would call the police and offered to give me a ride. I indicated I would just walk back which I did with him driving slowly beside me until I got back home. While going back he indicated that I had been spotted before on their porch cam and this time, because I went out later, the posy came out to track me down. I think if it was not for the person recognizing me, that the group would have tried to detain me and call the police. On one hand the whole experience was incredibly exhilarating, however it was also disconcerting to have people seemingly feel the need to hunt you down because you are going for a naked walk in the early morning when the streets are quiet to be able to enjoy the incredible feeling that walking around naked in the morning air gives you while causing no harm to anyone. Needles to say, I have not gone for a nude night walk since I had this encounter. I also have not had any further encounters with my neighbor who escorted me home - he lives on the other side of the crescent so we typically would not run into each other.
Bonus points for getting a posse created to come and track you down! There's a fair bit going on there if someone is regularly checking their camera footage, then hatching a plan to confront you that includes having a posse on standby, and having them come out in real time.
The mischievous part of me wonders what would happen if you again walked past his camera nice but were dressed by the time he caught up with you! Perhaps skin-tone bike shorts and a shirt (but don't wear the shirt as you walk past the camera, just hold it in your hand away from the camera's view).
I agree with Steve on this one, sounds like a lot more is going on here. To have friends on standby and at the ready is a bit overzealous. After all I can't personally imagine who would be concerned that a naked man was walking by at that hour, I would wager if you had been a female the entire scenario would have transpired totally different. I walk in my area regularly and have for years but not at 2:30 AM, my brain needs time to regenerate at this hour. I usually make the rounds around 4:30-5:30 and like you have had to duck behind a tree on occasion. Occasionally I get caught with nothing to do but smile, last week as I approached an intersection a small car turned down the street I was walking on. I usually can gauge the noise from a vehicle to determine how close it is but some of these new compacts are super quiet. As I was only some 40 feet away there was nothing to do but continue to walk on. The car did slow but proceeded on, probably trying to comprehend what they just witnessed!
Yes, that's a concern I havent thought about before - all those internet-connected doorbell cameras! I've done those late-night neighborhood walks too, but fortunately, all the homes are set back from the culdesac by 70 ft or more, so less likely I'd show up on someones camera feed!
I was caught once. I did a 10 or 11pm walk in town going up the street. On my way back I had just gotten to the property line when a car came around the corner. I made a mad dash for some trees on property. These people saw me and pulled into driveway and pulled up next to tree. There were 3 trees there 2 close together and one a few feet away. They would move back and forth to try and see me but I think the trees hid me just enough. After about 5 minutes (it seemed longer) they left. So I took off for the apartment. I watched out the window for a several minutes afterwards and they must of come back cause this car was driving real slow where they saw me.
I used to do naked night walks near the house but was never seen to my knowledge. I stopped doing it because of the security cameras that now swamp the UK. The nearest I was to being caught was actually the first time. I stepped out into our street just as a car turned into it. Luckily I was able to hide behind a hedge and they didn't see me - as far as I know. A close one!
It also sounds like those who drive in the fast lane at the speed limit as no one should be going any faster and they're the ones who should be doing the policing. There's probably a handful of that type in any population. Better for them to take the libertarian approach and ignore things that aren't directly impacting anyone; one can dream.
I love going for late night/early morning naked walks around the local area. Very exhilarating, liberating, and fun. I live quite near a park in the centre of town which is locked overnight. Its relatively easy to get in if you know the right spot but it means youre unlikely to bump into people most of the time. Some of the park is visible from the outside but there are some more private areas too where its pretty safe to relax. Ive been spotted on occasion but dont usually have any overreactions.
