RE: Who will be the GOP candidate for 2012?

I find it so interesting that these topics always seem to be startd by non-Americans. Don't you guys have your own political crap to worry about? Ever lived overseas for an extended period of time? American politics have a direct bearing on other countries. Especially our allies. Every country we're allied with (and some we aren't) has a stake in US politics, because eventually it will affect them directly.Whether it's the economy, or some dumb-ass war we drag them into, other countries are affected by everything the US does.
Yes, everything the US does effects other countries. Now while I have not lived many other countries (Canada and the US for years), I have visited.
But, imagine that you are the only one with a US passport, out of a group of 400, that arrives in a dictitorial country, where customs carries automatic weapons and you are pulled aside because of your passport. And it is a country highly supported by the US.
Imagine from your nice hotel room, looking past the beautiful golf course to gaze upon the shanty town that spreads across the hills.
Now imagine, if more americans had this experience, how less caustic the conversation would be if all would understand how good we've got it and should appreciate it. I'm not saying we don't have problems, we have HUGE problems. But politics as it is operating now is solving nothing. Ideology grid lock is solving nothing in this country.
Apologies if this is a bit off topic.....thanks for letting me rant! I'll shut up now....

Who will be the GOP candidate for 2012?

I posted a similar thing like this about 2 months ago. I suggested that everyone should check out Herman Cain. He has to be Obama's worst nightmare. He is intelligent, well spoken, charismatic and also Black. The lame stream media has a serious problem with him because that he completely nullifies the argument of racism in the Republican Party. That is why you won't see much of him except on Fox News. He is feared. Check out his web site, listen to his speeches, check his background. After you do, you'll probably want to support him.

BINGO!!! Herman's the man, and every liberal's worst nightmare. And if on the off chance he were nominated, the left would have a bigger meltdown than Chernobyl. You would hear racist venom spewed as never before from the purveyors of diversity.

Can't wait for the 3-D computers where you can reach through the screen and poke someone. I thinik the Republicans could do no worse by waiting outside a McDonalds at a prearranged time, and snatch the 3rd person walking out carrying a soft drink. The Party isn't at all organized enough this early to venture into that area. Romney will try and please those he thinks can help him win, then turn his back. I really haven't seen any candidates worthy enough. Pawlenty will make a good showing, but crap out at the end. How about McCain? Considering he won't die until he makes President, do Arizona a favor and support him.

Arizonans will always favor and support McCain. The man has forgotten more about good politics than most of the pre-mentioned candidates will ever know. He has also done for both Democrats and Republicans. Most people don't know this because the media just wants to push the fact that he was a POW. Check out his credentials and start wondering why you didn't vote for him in the first place. Most of us who elected not to vote in the last race did so because we knew that it was gonna be Obama hands down. The mob couldn't have fixed that race any better. Unfortunately, McCain is getting to old to run now. Maybe we should look at someone else who wasn't born in this country but can prove he's a citizen at least. GO ARNOLD

You missed the essential thing that I was teasing nevermind, cheek out some of the other thoughts under the liberal debate. Well Mr Cain sounds interesting and I know nothing of him, so for me this has flushed out someone who sounds interesting and may well surprise a larger audience.
My friend Bruce posed some interesting questions. in another space but I thought it was time for something new. The other point is that the impact of our alliance makes a huge impact on our country with unecessary wars and linkages. Only a short time ago our PM addressed a joint sitting of Congress yet many people in the US were simply unaware that it happened. She was originally on the left wing of the Labour Party, (our right wing party is called the Liberal Party!) something the Yankees never understand lol,
Some of you ask why someone outside the US should have such interest? I have followed US presidential elections for the past 34 years so old habits die hard. It is intinically interesting of its own right and for someone who votes in a differen form of government the idea of people within their own party attaking each other is both fascinating and amusing.
I predict that we will have a re run of '64 and that a right wing candidate will gain support from a groundswell of support (i.e teaparty like activists) but will fail to win support from the middle ground. If this other guy is as impressive as people here say (I had a brief look at his website and he seems very articulate so no GW) and there seems amazingly common agreement on that point, then the race will be much closer.
Thanks everyone for your spirited response
*Sigh*Is it possible to have political discussions without name calling? What does it really accomplish anyway? Each "group" of people have values, whether they are Christian or not. Why should anyone attack another's values that they hold dear? This only promotes division among the American people. We should not focus on how bad we think the other person is, but rather, how each of us can help to be a part of the solution. The Presidential race has become a popularity contest, just like all elections accross the globe. It is no longer about who has the best qualifications for the job. We should regard this process as a job interview. The questions we ask of candidates should be about his/her ability to do the job for which they are applying. So far, I think that the man with the best qualifications is Herman Cain. He is well educated, he has excellent business experience with a proven track record, great values, and wants to see The U.S. reach its potential as the best economy in the world. He believes in small government, lower taxes and strong national defense. Herman is well spoken and knows the issues that are important to the people. He is also a supporter of the Fair Tax. https://www.fairtax.org. He is also someone who believes that the Constitution should be our guide for our country. The next best candidate is Newt Gingrich. He has many of the same qualities of Herman Cain. Newt has experience in the Federal government as Speaker of the House of Representatives. He is well versed in the Constitution. Newt has studied the Constitution and our government and how it was designed to operate.Let's work together for the common good of the country. RE: Who will be the GOP candidate for 2012?

The Cato and flat tax debate? Hmmmmm well I understand the great simplistic appeal but failed supply side economics didn't work, deficits increased and large corporations failed to pay their fair share, why, I know I have worked for 2 of them State Street Bank and Trust and JPM Chase, their bank accounts were domiciled in the Caymans Islnds. I would suggest cutting $150 billion from the US Military budget, cut the waste extravagance and obsecene spending, make them live within a certain % of GDP and avoid the blood and treasure expended in a way that has failed to achieve the stated goals.
I have seen the debate on waste but it seems the biggest source of waste remains sacrosant, seems like a holy cow, be brave and apply some discipline to protect your citizens real interests.
Herman seems like an interesting question so thanks for the thumbs up there.

RE: Who will be the GOP candidate for 2012? Herman Cain

Well I have to agree he is impressive and articulate. I am deeply worried about his strident pro Christian stance and ignorance of the the Mccarthy horrors from the '50's. Some have mentioned his deep understanding of the Constitution, that is a refreshing change from the Bush era. It will certainly add intellectual horsepower.
One point of curiousity for me was his headline quote "U.S will not become the United States of Europe"? meaning what exactly?
