My local writer's group
Two years ago I discovered an long time small group of writers who met twice a month in person to encourage each other to write. The format is we chat for a few minutes then pick a writing prompt, usually from a choice of 3, then spend 20-30 minutes creating a short story or poem based as strictly or loosely on the prompt as inspired. Then we read them to each other. We don't really critique each other, and in fact we don't let others bad mouth their own work. We simply meet to encourage and have an outlet. Over the years we have laughed and cried and every emotion in between . COVID caused us to switch to zoom which was a blessing in a way. we now meet weekly and have been able to add a couple of people who cant join in person to be be able to participate. I got to continue to zoom in while on an extended road trip to avoid Indiana winter. ( went well until Texas winter caught up with me last week)
I often work something about causal nudity into my stories. Nothing sexual, just something where a character is not clothed in a setting only a nudist would find themselves. Last night the prompt had us describing where we currently were sitting. Since I was at home, I described my old house adventure of fixing up an much in need farmhouse house over the past 32 yrs. At one point i mentioned using a floor sander naked which got a laughs and chuckles from the other 3 writers that lasted for quite a while. They knew me well enough to know that I did not make that part of it up. I have been surprised that the one woman who joined after covid so i have never met in person has fessed up to her own home nudity . Other writers, in fact the leader ( female) and male has actually joined me for a hot tub soak nude before we joined the rest of the group via zoom.
