Writers block.
I've resumed work on the sequel to my novel 'Someday' after a break of two years. A combination of writers block and indecision over one of the characters had caused me to leave it for some time out. During that time I was absorbed reading the fascinating factual books of Laurence Gardner, and the ancient truths revealed in the Dead Sea Scrolls, and other ancient tablets.
I have a lot of writing to do now!
Although my works are unpublished, I have a method that has eliminated any writer's block for me. The method that works for me is to NEVER end my writing session that finished an activity, and literally never ends the last sentence with a period. For me, trying to restart writing on a story that ended an activity and even leaves me with a period as a launching point... it doesn't work. On the other hand, whenever I sit down to a story in creation that DIDN'T finish the situation and even has an unfinished sentence... I can immediately dive right in to conclude that last activity with the unfinished sentence. By that time, my fingers are typing away and my mind is reengaged. That works for me.
For me, I have found it is usually a creative block as much as anything else. If I stimulate the creative part of my brain, the words start to flow again. It was a young female writer that suggested this solution. Her suggestion was to step back and write some erotic fiction because it is just fun to write. No one has to read it. I find that after I write a scene or two of something that is just fun to write, it isn't always erotic, I can step back to my other work and move forward. The only downside is that you end up writing some good stories that just sit on the shelf. As I have expanded on this practice, I have also found it to be a good time to write down the story nuggets that might be the beginning of a new novel.
I have had two short erotic novels published, which were great fun to write, but while writing the sequel to my second story I got distracted by reading a fascinating, even mind-blowing series of non-fiction books by Laurence Gardner. They are all about the facts revealed in the Qumran (Dead Sea) scrolls, and other ancient pre-biblical archives, which explain and debunk religious fiction.
