Northern Chesapeake Bay Kayaking
I want to start kayaking/paddling around the Havre de Grace area, Swan Creek, Susquehanna River, Bush River. But new to kayaking, so should I take lessons? Should I rent gear for now? Anyone wanna kayak naked? Have they kayaked naked around these waters? Any advice?
Thanks in advance.
Love kayaking naked, went out tonight after work for a couple of hours. I spend most of my time on the Nanticoke or Pocomoke rivers. Classes are probably not needed unless you will be using one of sit in kayaks that have a very tight cockpit area that make it difficult to get out of if it flips over. Then some training would be needed to learn how to exit while upside down or to roll it back upright. I have a pelican sit in with large cockpit and you kinda just fall out if it tips over. Sit on top are easy to use but not practical for paddling while nude.
You are in the area of some of my favorite waters...
Buy a used kayak for starters. You can probably find a better kayak for the same money. Sometimes you can find a new scratched vessel at a discount from one of the big retailers. My first two were about half price during an once a year sale. Later I bought a better sit in kayak by sealed bid from a benefit auction and another from an online auction. The long narrow kayaks go faster or are more efficient per stroke. Get a life vest during one of the sales. One with a whistle already attached meets the requirement of Maryland law......
I am not sure what to say about lessons. Maybe watch someone and ask how to paddle correctly.
I'm always interested in outdoor recreation in the buff-. Maybe a couple of buddies would like to join as well. I don't check group discussion often, so message me if you would like to connect.
