American Gigolo

I recently read that both Christopher Reeves and John Travolta were both considered for the lead before it was given to Richard Gere.
I have also read in the past that the Gere made an impromptu decision to appear nude.
I wonder if the other two actors would have done the same?

Recently found out that Equus predated American Gigolo and had more extensive full frontal male nudity.
I wonder why the brief unscripted nude scene in American Gigolo got so much attention?

Saw that Showtime will be presenting a series based American Gigolo.
Wondering if there will be nudity in it.
