Pacemaker replaced
Dec 2018 it was time to get a replacement for the 5.5 yr old one. It is an outpatient procedure. A friend dropped me off at the hospital since you can't drive yourself home. In the prep room the nurse told me to strip to my undies and put on the gown. Of course being a freeballerelf for decades there was no undies. Oh well. I stripped and lay down gown and surgical socks only. A female nurse folded thene gown down and shaved the dozen gray hairs my chest. The male nurse then took over. The doc came in and introduced himself and said "because of your condition I might have to put a temporary pacemaker in while I replace the old, if I do your recovery time will be 4 hrs not 2. ". I did not ask what that meant , but thought I will have to let my pick up friend know. Once into the OR room I was fully alert and aware of the stuff going on around me. Maybe 6 staff in the room. The male prep nurse then mentioned that he would prep me in case the doc had to do the temporary pacemaker. He then folded up my gown and went at my pubes on either side. He mentioned that he would keep my junk covered and did. He did not comment about my lack of undies. I told him don't worry I am not modest I noticed that everyone else in the room were deliberately looking away. Just as he finished up the doc came in and said " I will not be doing the temp procedure". So I joked with the staff that I would have a new look when I went to the nude beach with my friends the next month in Australia. Which was where I was going. I looked up afterwards and the temp pacemaker is done like a heart cath up thru the groin. I am sure glad he did not have to do it. I would have had a slower recovery and a very bruised look not just bare at the nude beach in Perth a few weeks later.
he shaved my pubes on either side off. I was wondering myself why since i had not asked the doc any details. I did some research and to do a temporary pacemaker while swapping out the regular one they do an incision in the same vein that they use to do heart cath. Then run a wire up through it. I had a heart cath back in 2013 and know how long it took for that to heal and stop looking awful with the bruising. I am really glad he did not need to do it in 2018. I had a hell of a lot of walking starting the next week in NYC and on around the world
