Nudist beaches - South Africa

Why is there such a big stigma about nudist beaches in South Africa? There are very few of them; one in Cape Town and another one near Durban; apparently there is one in Port Elizabeth as well. South Africa has some beautiful beaches.

Why is there such a big stigma about nudist beaches in South Africa?

It may have something to do with Great White Sharks feeding on seals close to the shoreline. I think I would avoid getting in the water if that were the case. I wouldn't want to feed myself to a fish.
