woke up to no power
This morning well before dawn i awoke to total darkness, not the way I normally wake up. I have 100 Christmas lights strung above my bed as night / reading lights that are on 24/7. So total darkness meant no power. I live rural and this time of year thanks to leaves I cannot see another home. So to see how widespread the power outage was I grabbed a sweatshirt but did not put it on and streaked out to the car. I got 1/4 mile up the road and noticed someone at the next home north outside with a flashlight but their property otherwise dark. Then I noticed a pick up truck with the flashers going off in the ditch on the west side of the road. But the power poles are on the east side of the road. I backed up and turned around and came back home and called 911. I also contacted the power company. Dispatch assured me that it had been called in already and help was on the way. i thanked her and hung up. The power came back on about 2.5 hrs later. I think had i not seen any activity at the nearest and if the flashers had not been flashing on the ditched truck I would have had to do a sweatshirt only rescue on a 43F degree morning.
From what i can tell the truck veered off the east side of the road took out the power pole then over corrected and went off and got stuck on the west side of the road.
