YMCA in overall decline?
Do you see open nudity at the Y as not only in decline, but that whole institution of the Y as in a slow death spiral?
I recently gave up my YMCA membership because the maintenance and upkeep has been so poor and monthly fees are relatively expensive. At LA Fitness where I now attend, I occasionally use the sauna and am usually the only naked man there. Many young men are fully dressed, including even their shoes, all very strange to me. My sense is not that younger men are modest and troubled by nudity, but rather that they consider a public locker room not an appropriate or safe place to be naked, and that they're dismissive of me for being older and not "getting" it. How do you see it?
I don't go to a YMCA right now, although I have in the past, but your description of young guys in the locker room has been exactly my experience. I am often the only one in the locker room who stays naked. Young guys will come into the sauna wearing shorts or long pants and tshirts sometimes. They seem to dismiss my nudity as some old guy who just doesn't know how to behave. Guys who stay clothed used to be the exception now the nude guys are the exception.
They think your gay most of the young men at LA Fitness don't like it when you are naked on the other hand New York Sports Clubs different mentally most members don't care and would have sex with you in the suna or Steam Room in a heartbeat
I grew up at our local YMCA and nude in the locker room was considered the normal experience. It was segregation by sexes back then as there was a YWCA in town too. We on the swim team would wonder and talk about what it would be like to sneak into the YWCA and check out to see if the Women were like us men hanging out nude in the locker room and pool!
