Bates Beach, Carpinteria, CA
The Friends of Bates Beach and the Southern California Naturist Association will be hosting a nude beach party on Saturday, 8/24/19 from noon until approximately 5 pm.
Once you're at the bottom of the ramp leading down to the sand, walk north along the beach until you come to the concrete retaining wall.
We will have a small "I love(heart) Bates Beach" sign up.
We invite anyone to join us for a beach party and to populate this traditional clothing-optional section of the beach!
Even though the Santa Barbara nudity law remains in effect, we have an understanding with the local authorities that they will not come down to the beach unless a complaint is filed. Go as bare as you dare! Your decision, your choice! Bring your own picnic supplies, chairs, umbrellas and sunscreen and make a day of it.
Join us for a great beach day!
How difficult is the trail to the beach? Di is wanting to visit nude beaches but so many are so remote and difficult for her to navigate. Pretty sure we won't make it to Bates this weekend but looking at the calendar, we are slated for a drive up to Nor Cal in Oct. What's the weather like then?
Of all the beaches in California that I've visited with clothing optional sections, this is the easiest to get to.
You just walk down a concrete ramp from the parking lot to the sand (in the picture attached to the previous post) and then north on the beach about 1/4 mile to the concrete retaining wall.
It looks steep in the previous picture, but it's not that bad. I've attached another picture that gives a better view of the ramp down to the beach.
The weather in October is hit and miss...you could have an absolutely beautiful, sunny beach day, or it could be overcast and chilly.
Beach Report - 8/24/19
About 24 people showed up for our nude party down on Bates Beach on Saturday.
We were all having a great time enjoying the beautiful weather and beach naturally until about 2 pm when four Santa Barbara Sheriffs along with a Park Ranger came down in their truck to give everyone a warning that we were not allowed to be nude on the beach. No citations were given.
Someone had complained about us which is only reason that the authorities will come down to the beach.
We recommend that if you want to enjoy the beach nude that you walk north on the beach past the concrete retaining wall around the first point to an area that is far from the textiles until we have a chance to meet with the new park ranger who was replaced about a month ago.
Jaybirds,
Are you confident that you'll be able to educate this new ranger? If I'm not mistaken, your groups fought hard to get this beach back. Was there a reason the authorities were called and was it justified? I remember that nudists calling authorities on lewd acts on San Onofre, Trail 6 backfired on us and they used those complaints against us to stop our nude use of that section of beach. That beach lost lots and lots of annual revenue. Still hoping to make it down to Bates!
