NAVY Veteran AG5
NAVY Veteran - 1967-1971. USS Kitty Hawk CVA-63, Navy Class 'A' School Aerographers Mate, Lakehurst NJ, FNWC, Monterey CA.
I'm a Navy Veteran as well, QM1(SW) retired! Served onboard USS Tarawa (LHA-1) 1980 -1981, VP-56 1981-1982, USS Guitarro (SSN-665), USS Thomas S. Gates (CG-51) 1990 - 1995, USS Mahan (DDG-72) 1998 - 2003. Shore Duty commands at Pentagon Navy Command Center - 1995- 1998, and USNA Annapolis - 2003-2006.
HI...our years match...was Great Lakes for Boot Camp, then Newport for QM 'A' School. 13 months in Adak, Alaska working in SAR Ops with Ads, then the remainder of my enlistment aboard USS Hancock (CVA 19) for two WestPacs/Yankee Station. Used to sunbathe on a former gun deck on the 010 level but never naked there. That didn't happen until my first year after discharge, when my ex and I visited our first nudist camp with friends. From the moment I felt the breeze all over my naked body, I was sold, and have enjoyed being a nudist ever since.
Navy veteran here. Western PAC. USS Gridley CG 21. 1978-84. Would like to here about fellow Vets experiences on crossing the line, ie equator.
Navy Vet here as well. USS Wiltsie DD 716. West Pac/RVN '72-'73. Gunline duty and assignments, plane guarded USS Oriskany and USS Saratoga, rescued 3 pilots and 2 RIO's. We lost one RIO. DD716 was a gearing class destroyer also known as a Tin Can. She shook, rattled, creaked and popped, leaked everywhere. Sometimes we didn't think she survive the open ocean out of San Diego Harbor or San Fran Bay. Boot Camp NTC San Diego '71 and deployed to RVN in '72 for 8 months. During a break in gunline duties, our skipper took us across the equator and those of us not yet Shellbacks, became one. I thought it was pretty hilarious! Afterwards, we had swim call to get all the crap off of us. I still remember gunners mates up high on the ship with M16's on shark watch!!
