In the market!

As stated several times before, my grandson will take over ownership of my '01 XJ Cherokee Sport. We've had lots of great fun and memories riding together in that little Jeep but Grandpa or "Papa" as I'm called, is ready for a new ride. He's excited to get his own wheels now. He's been using his sister's stock 2 whl dr. XJ and wants something that's been "Trail Rated!" :DDDD

I was going to pull the trigger on the new Gladiator but decided to wait for a couple years til Chrysler/Jeep gets the bugs out of the first year's model. Besides... I like Red vehicles. Must have something to do with driving them my entire profession. The new Jeep truck doesn't come in red yet so I'll wait.

I'm going with a Wrangler 4dr. Not sure whether to go Sport, Sport S, Limited, Unlimited, Sahara or Rubicon. Rubicon is not out of the equation but not sure I need that much macho of an off road vehicle. For what we do and where we go, the other models seem to do well enough but I won't rule the Rubicon out.

SO... for all you Jeep off roaders willing to do so, I'm all ears on what model you think is best for me to look at seriously. I have about a month and a half and will be test driving all of these models I can. Thanks in advance for the comments and advice!

Too late, couldn't wait! We just drove home our new Wrangler Sport Unlimited; Fire Engine Red (Fire Cracker Red) with a black hard top. Great little ride and it'll make our annual trips and all of those in between with just my wife and I, a lot of fun!

Thanks anyway!

Right now it's stock and I'd like to trick it out a little more. I'll post one soon in my profile gallery. ;D

Awesome ride. I'm in the market for a two door I can tow behind the RV. Going to have to wait though as I just bought an F-150 work truck...

As you put some miles on, please let us know about the hits and misses. Particularly if you decide to use it as a toad.

I do plan on using as a toad. It's a little heavier than my XJ but it should tow easily behind my 30ft Winnebago Sightseer with a V10. I ended up with the 2.0 Turbo, 8 spd auto trans. It's a 2018 and they made me a pretty good deal to get it off the lot. Not a lot of bells and whistles but as many as I had with my '01 XJ except now I have that new car smell! ;DDD

I will keep this group posted on my findings but for now, I really like it!

On a different note; I was in the market for a new Jeep Gladiator truck. I've been waiting to see one up close and personal but from some of the posts and advice I got from other Jeep owners, I stayed away from jumping on the first year of this vehicle. My son in law said that Jeep turned out 24,000 units on the first day of debut and they all sold within 24 hours! The salesman said that most, if not all, were fully equipped and were going for well over 50K! I think I'll wait til the frenzy dies down! :DDD

Congrats on the new ride. That looks like a lot of fun. Been really wanting a Jeep lately to wander the desert.

RE:In the market!

It has been fun to drive! Haven't taken out into the dirt yet but it's on the list. We've got a couple of trips planned from now until the next off road trip so it'll remain on pavement for a bit. We found a hotel out in the desert with a clothing optional pool area and private patios. We'll be heading out that way for a long mid week stay. We'll take full advantage of the C/O pool area, the private patio and take the new jeep out for some naked time in the desert.

Still waiting for a few more accessories to arrive and install. Most importantly are the running boards. Our legs just to lift up as high as they used to! :DDD Once those are in, then I'll take a picture of what I've done so far, which is purely cosmetic. Next year, I'll put a slight lift on it, some 33" tires, better shocks and buy a hoist for the garage so I can take the roof off and store it up in the air and not on the ground.
