Generation gap is narrowing
I've noticed lately that younger men in their 20s and 30s are becoming more comfortable with nudity at the YMCA. I think it has to do with a generational shift taking place. Older men who used to dominate the locker room with their post-war confidence are becoming less frequent visitors, and the middle aged men who are more reserved are increasingly taking the role of "wise elders." These men are more focused on fitness, old enough to remember naked high school locker rooms, but young enough to show that they are taking good care of themselves, not fitting the image of the fat old grampa cutting his toenails in the sink. Younger men are taking note and becoming less consientious. They were never shy or prudish to start with, just sensitive to feeling that they have a safe space to enjoy.
What do you think?
About time. It is a very valuable experience for males to be nude together, medically speaking, especially in that age group! They will end up feeling better about their genitals, which was the issue previously, after seeing the diversity in the locker room and showers. We men need to encourage that. Walk nude to the showers, dont cover up, only use a towel to dry off, sit naked in the steam room/sauna without genitals open. If we dont we will be going backwards!

Stoneandy , I haven't noticed this trend you're referring to at my Y. In fact they just keep changing more and more showers from group to private (which is only giving these younger men ammunition to be more modest.)
I hope you're right though.
