Love Living Where I Do but
I love where I live, the Colorado Rockies, but sometimes I really envy those of you who live in warm climates. I am definitely looking forward to being naked outside again. I gave it a try last week on a warm partly cloudy day. I headed out for one of my favorite early season hikes on a south facing mountainside. I got ten feet before I had to strap on the snowshoes to get through the wet mash potatoes snow. I trudged up to where there are some open south-facing slopes, where the snow typically melts off early. No go. I was now just hoping for a dry spot to strip down and sun myself. It wasnt looking good; the snow was three feet deep in most places. After two miles of slogging through difficult snow I spied a large smooth log laying even with the snow level. That was the best I was going to do. It felt so good to get naked and lay in the sun listening to the birds and the breeze in the trees. It was plenty warm, but the clouds were trying to roll in. I got my requisite time front and back, then with everything but my thin snow pants and tee shirt packed in my pack, I hiked back. It wasnt a total loss, but you know those clouds, they dumped another 20 inches of snow. My most favorite place for getting naked in nature still has over ten feet of snow on the ground. Oh yes, there are days I long for a beach or the desert. At least the skiing will be good until closing day. What about you? Looking forward to spring?
I can really complain about southern California. We have to pay heavily for all this sunshine. But I gladly do this. The ability to not shovel snow can be worth the price. We pay more for no hurricanes or tornados, but we do live in a shake or bake area. (Earthquakes and fires) As Adny says, we can travel about an hour for snow, mountains, beaches or desert. This does not mean this is better or worse than any where else, it just means we have some opportunities for local trips. I would love to visit Colorado and other states for many reasons. Take advantage when you can. I just completed a year of medical and was able to travel to Pennsylvania, new York, Connecticut, and Gunnison Beach in New Jersey. Remind us of the good places where we live so others can plan better trips.
These other trips remind us EACH of why where we live is so great.
