How interesting and very nice that you are involved in wine making! I love to drink a glass (or two) with my dinner - a fan of dry reds. Jim sometimes enjoys a small glass as well as an occasional beer, which I'm not such a fan of.
It sounds like you've been making your own wine for awhile. What inspired you to get started?

Wow. Instant flashback. My wife and I bottled our own wine 20 years ago. At one time we had over 300 bottles in our basement. Think it's time to maybe restock. Time to chat with the wife and get her into it again.

All I know is, Oregon is right up the coast, and that sounds like a party worth visiting! :)

Wow,

how big is your domain? We think, you need 1 tree per bottle? Nice hobby!

If you go through, say, 15 bottles of wine each month would making your own save much money? I wouldn't hold out any expectation of making a wine that was better than I could buy but it would be nice to be self sufficient with my refreshments.

Actually you save a fair amount. We purchase our wine kits from a wine store, at approx. $ 100- $ 160. a kit. Each kit yields about 30 bottles of wine. At $100 a kit, each bottle would cost about $ 3.30 a bottle, and at $160 a bottle would be about $5.33. We travel to the Okanogan Valley in BC where there are literally hundreds of wineries, and do a wine tasting tour. We do purchase some wines there, but I can honestly say I cannot tell the difference between theirs and ours.
It all depends on how reputable the wine store is and the quality of the kit. We bottle both red and white wines.
Hope that helps.
