Planned 4x4 trips for 2017
Our annual Death Valley trip is only 3.5 months away and I'm already gearing up for it. With the help of a TN friend and fellow off roader, I've continued to add necessities to my off road boxes that I take on each trip. Unfortunately, this is the only trip I take each year where I do any serious off roading. I've done some on my own but I'm not comfortable enough to do it alone and always prefer to have someone with me in another vehicle.
This coming trip, we will extend the weekend so we can explore more trails in Death Valley and are planning an overnight trip to Saline Springs. It's approximately 80 miles of dirt/gravel road that is usually wash boardish. We've only heard about it from a young lady that works at the Panamint Springs Resort that frequents the hot springs when she has a few days off.
We talked pretty extensively with this young woman. Of course, my buddies at times act like Jr. High Schoolers and joke about "the nakeds" out there. I could see that she wasn't amused and after they all went back to camp, I stuck around for another beer and more adult talk with this young woman. To a few minutes to convince her I was a real nudist and was truly interested in visiting this place. Pictures on my phone, membership cards and talking the lingo ... she even said ... "I'd go out there with you and show you around." It was enough to have a good conversation with someone that had been there.
We will return to DV around our usual time and this time, we are home basing out of this resort and will have hot showers each night, flush toilets and a bar and restaurant across the street from the campground. That's what I call ... roughing it! :D
Thanks for the response! Good to have some first hand experience and input from those that have actually been. Not sure if the young lady we've become friends with will take us up on the offer to lead our expedition but either way ... I think we'll have an awesome ride and visit to Saline Valley Hot Springs. ;-)
Would like to meet up with you when you are in DV and do some off road 4x4. We are only 65 miles for there and can be there in about 1hour but needs some lead time.
Are you also that close to Panamint Springs Resort? That is where I'll be based. We have a over night trip planned for Saline Valley Hot Springs on a Monday, returning on a Tuesday. Looks to be a close friend and I going on that trip. During the weekend, we are there with others ... ALL textiles. That part of the trip wouldn't be as fun for nudists! hahaha
We can continue this conversation via private message for further details!! ;-)
We have been talking about going to saline springs. But I have a Dodge 2500 4x4. Do you need a super serious 4x4 to get there or could I make it with my truck on 35" wheels? I have also thought about going out there're on dirt bikes but of course taking the truck will allow me to bring more comfortable accommodations.
I have a '01 Jeep Cherokee Sport, stock 4x4 with a 4" lift ... it made it very easily from the "roughest" route. There are two ways in and the route we took out, was quite a bit easier! Your truck will have NO problem.
Two ways in. From the south outta Panamint Springs; this is the "roughest" route but I was hoping for a much more fun, rocky road but encountered almost all dirt and gravel roads that you could "almost" take a regular street car out there and make it.
The other route is from the north outta Big Pine. This route is easier and we just made loop. We camped at Panamint Springs and drove out to Saline Valley Hot Springs, set up camp and spent the day and night. We left and headed north out by way of Big Pine and returned back to base camp at Panamint. Great trip. Even got my buddy to strip down and enjoy some naked time out there! He wants to go back... and so do I.
Thanks for the tips. I think we will have a trip plann d in our near future. Went dirt bike riding out of the Bishop area this weekend with some buddies. Visited Wild Willys hot springs in the middle of a 150 mile ride. Man it was hard to put my gear back on and ride another 50 miles. There was lots of people and it did not seem like a nude friendly place but I still enjoyed the pool. Did get me thinking about doing a hot spring tour of the area. The more remote the better and I can ride the motorcycles out there for adventure. Anyway we will probably do that for Saline springs.
