Mac or PC?
Apples History, does anyone recall this: Apple IIe, Apple IIc, Apple IIgs. I had all three, in a matter of about 6 years or so. When the new one came out, they always said it will support your old software, BS, only the really basic items were supported, none of my documents were able to be transferred from IIe to IIc, and Apple sold me expansion cards that were supposed to help, no help, then the Apple IIgs, I was able to transfer the old files to a better computer, got stationed in Hawaii in 1986, came back to Virginia in 89, went to Apple store for new software, NOTHING, they were now only supporting the Macintosh. I had spent a hell of a lot of money to that point, and could not get squat for the IIc or IIgs, went on base and bought my first computer that actually was supported, the Packard Bell, and have been with HP since then. I just had a 6 month old printer go bad, I had bought the extended coverage so was not worried, got on line to HP, turns out this printer has a history of bad print heads, it took 30 minutes and I had a email from HP that a new printer was being shipped to my house by FEDEX and send old printer back in same box. NICE. By the way, this is the first HP printer I have had go bad. I did screw up one by getting refillable ink pods from Office Depot, DO NOT DO THAT, they leak, real slow but they leak and ruined the printer.Just my 2 cents worth
Before the Apple IIe was the Apple II+. I go back to that time. A few documents I created on the Apple ][+ are on my Macintosh today. Yes, they had to be converted from old software to Appleworks then to Pages etc but the documents are still alive. No different than documents one might have had on their old DOS PC.
HP and Epson both make good printers (I have both). I agree about the refillable cartridges though. I know others that have had them also ruin printers. Probably why the manufacturers warn against using them.
