All have sinned

What does it mean to you when Paul says in Romans 3:23, "...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,..."?

RE: All have sinned

If all have sinned, then I am a sinner. Furthermore, if all have
sinned, then everyone I know is a sinner. None of us can be good
enough for God. We all, using an archery metaphor, miss the bull's
eye.
So now, if all of us are sinners, what do we do with Romans 6:23:
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life
in Christ Jesus our Lord"?

Well paul tells me that we are all sinners, we are born into sin so its a guarantee that we will eventually sin. But even then God in his infinte wisdom and love and our messy sinned up lives that through his word in Jude 24 and 25:Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,25To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. Even through it all his love and strength in us will win in the end through our mess we can still see Jesus, just remember to love God with all your heart, if you love God you will keep his commandments Amen]?

This means to me that no man can earn heaven by being good or deserves heaven because he claim that he never sinned. ONLY by GRACE of God we may enter heaven. That doesn't mean that we don't have to be good or try not to sin, but no man on earth is perfect like Jesus. We may act like Jesus, try to think like Jesus and follow Jesus, but we'll never be like Jesus as hard as we try. We're saved only by grace and not by work, place of birth, color of our skin, shape of our body, fellowship in the church... We are not perfect, that's why we are sinners. But that's why he sent Jesus so that we may be saved by his grace.

RE:All have sinned

I have struggled a lot with the idea of Original Sin. I have yet to see anyone make a plausible case for how a just God can have everyone born already condemned, before doing anything good or bad. In Deuteronomy 24:16, we read, ""Fathers are not to be put to death for their children, and children are not to be put to death for their fathers; each person will be put to death for his own sin." This is a basic principle of justice, and Original Sin, as usually taught, violates it.

What "all have sinned" means to me is that every one of us, whatever our standards may be, has not always lived up to our own standards. No Hindu has perfectly kept all Hindu teachings, no practitioner of Native American religion has ever perfectly kept all Native American religious teachings, no ethical secularist has perfectly kept every ethical teaching, and no Christian has ever perfectly kept all Christian teaching. Thus, whatever our concept of God may be, we fall short of it.

Interesting question. As stated, all have sinned (Roman 3:23) and each person will be judged on their own account. So, how does the sin of Adam and Eve translate to sin today? If you believe the Bible, then you have to believe all of it since taking exception to any of it means that you cant trust any of it. Essentially, if something is judge to be wrong, what basis is there to not also disbelieve other parts. Therefore, original sin was the disobedience of God resulting in the removal from the Garden of Eden and the curse upon mankind for that disobedience. As such, all of us gained knowledge of good and evil. We see children disobey parents at very young ages because they want their way. Same as Adam and Eve, they wanted to be like Godtheir temptation was to disobey God by choosing their own choice.

The Romans scripture was addressed to people of age and with faculties to understand their true situation. Children that are not developed mentally to understand good and evil are not held to the same responsibility. The original sin is nothing more than the loss of innocence that Adam and Eve had prior to the disobedience. We are still under the curse and only through Jesus Christ can we overcome the curse and be absolved of our sins committed each day. Remember God has his justice that is not mans and well should be careful about applying our thinking on God.

I am thankful God loved me enough to send Jesus as my sacrifice for my sins because I definitely am nowhere good enough for anything without his grace. May the Lord bless you and other Christians and lead others to know his grace.
