Private profiles and pictures.
I'm confused as to why anyone would have a private profile. The purpose of the site is to interact with other nudists isn't it? If you have a private profile how can people know anything about you and decide if they want to interact with you and possibly become a friend? I don't go down the list of all members looking for friends but rather go into chat or read forums. While there I sometimes check out participant's profiles. When I come across a profile that says for friends only I just ignor it and go on. Same with the pictures. If all the pictures on a person's profile say for friends only I shrug and leave those alone too.
I can understand to an extent people making some pictures private because there are those here who perv and are not really true nudists but clothed or just face pictures are easy enough to upload and include for everyone to see.
I know it is every person's right to limit who can view them but why bother to even get on the site if you don't let anyone see anything about you?
I thought it was hilarious when somone asked to be friends with me and when I checked out his profile it said for friends only. I denied the friendship because I couldn't find out anything about him.
I think some people join this site as they think it's a bit of soft porn and want to look at naked people. I have no problem with people wanting to hide some images but they should have one or 2 free to be seen - not necessarily naked.
I do think that if they hide their images they should at least accept genuine/verified members as friends.
There is another side of this too. Not everyone here is interested in collecting friends. I started visiting TN to learn about the culture. Now that I've been here for awhile, I answer more questions than I ask. I only interact on the forums and groups and have no interest in accepting friend requests. That said, I do have a public profile because I want everyone to have some idea of who is replying. It does seem that most of who have private profiles only interact in chat. I'm not sure if that means anything. Most here simply ignore private profiles and I think that is exactly what those with private profiles want. Feel free to ignore me to ;-)
One of my main objectives here is to learn more about organized nude recreation and meet the local area prospective members for a club in our area. We can and have travlled 450 k, a choice of Prairie suns and Green Haven, or go on vacation to other places. Online is not a first choice. A private profile would not serve me well however if a good prospect for a local club member appeared in my neighborhood i would want a place of attraction here,
Well ... I didn't even realize I had a "private" profile until someone Irequested friendship with told me that they didn't accept friendship from someone with a private profile. I filled out my profile quite a bit when I joined a few years ago but never got any further on my settings so it was set to private ... automatically or by my own doing but it was not intentional. I have nothing to hide except some pictures that include my wife. If I'm friends with you, I have no problem with that but I'm not on here to "share" pictures with just anyone. I can see now why it's important to someand why so many people demand "certification" but it's NOT a deal breaker for me. If I communicate with someone enough and build a trust, they don't HAVE to be certified to be my friends. I happen to be friends with a female member here and she's not certified but I know she's a real person and who she says she is. NOONE's gonna communciate with you the waywe do to each other and not be a true nudist ... regardless of certification. ... I don't have a private profile anymore ... I don't think! LOL
Public profile does not mean public pictures!!!
There is fundamental flaw in the site as allowing private profiles. I think profile pic and some basic info should at all times be public if someone is on the site. Then, some other details like exact location or professional info etc. one should be able to hold private, as well as pics (with current settings at least pics can separately be kept private). Also private profiles probably contradict their purpose as those who here for a reason tend to despise them but those with dubious motivation are not probably anyhow hindered to send unsolicited friend requests in order to satisfy their curiosity about private profiles.
Solution: All profile info + profile pic are at all times public, but in addition to that, there would be separate chapter "info for friends only" where one could write info that could be read by people on one's friends' list only. That would help out a lot to keep the site open and informative but not restricting people's right to privacy (as profile pic shouldn't have to be face shot).
This is my humble suggestion to reform the site. Or another would be: keep private profiles available, but ban them from seeing other people's profiles, pictures and participating in Forum (unless maybe creating Forum Topic "Private Profiles Talk") or Chat.
Unfortunately, until nudism becomes mainstream, there will be the need for some to hide their profiles. Medical professionals, teachers, clergy, politicians, all have a career and livelihood to lose, due to the negative connotation nudism has. This will continue until such a time, as we can present nudism as a normal lifestyle in our culture and not a perversion. The best way to do this is to continue to fight the encroachment of filth in the nudist community. To those who say that it takes all kinds to make a nudist community, I would say, the textile world does not put up with inappropriate behavior, the nudist community should do no less. As long as we allow inappropriate behavior in our open activities, we will never be accepted by the textile world as a legitimate movement. This is a sad thing for our friends who are in a public, scrutinized career. There is a time and place for everything, even in the nudist community.
I like what you said here because it is very true. My profile is not private but very discreet for the reason you mentioned. Also, the "encroachment of filth" as you called it has hurt the acceptance of nudism very much. Great thoughts here and 100% on target!
+1 I had to think long and hard to go ahead and make my profile and pics public due to my job and possible repurcussions.
Ok, Like someonealready said, maybe they are being honest and don't want there info to be accessable to just anyone. Now then, about the "not allowing pervs to view ones profile or pictures". Why would a true nudist care if it's a perv or not that's viewing their pics? Same for the cams in chatroom. Why have your cam on, if you don't want to allow everyone to view? For real, I am pretty sure that in a real nudist area, you can't control who looks and who doesn't. Heck, why even pay any attention to who is viewing? I just don't understand the big deal. If my cam is on, you are free to look as long as you can tolerate it....:])

I agree there are many who need some respect and privacy. but to have no photo? even a pic of your foot is better than nothing. just my 1 cent.
