Equal Topless Right For All
This Sunday is GoTopless Day 2014 an event supporting women's rights to go topless in public on the basis of gender equality€ according to the official Web site at gotopless.org.
For Phoenix attendees, this annual, worldwide event will be held at Steele Indian School Park in central Phoenix on Sunday, August 24. It's all happening from 10 a.m. to noon at Indian School Road and 3rd Street.
Since its debut in 2008, GoTopless Day is always held on the Sunday closest to Women's Equality Day on August 26 the day women were granted equal voting rights in 1920. Both the event and the non-profit organization were founded by American spiritual leader Rael, whose mission is simple, As long as men are allowed to be topless in public, women should have the same constitutional right. Originating in Nevada, GoTopless Day has now caught on throughout the United States as events are scheduled in New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco, Honolulu, and more. GTD has even spread to Canada, Europe, Israel, and Africa.
According to current Arizona law, a person commits indecent exposure if he or she exposes his or her genitals or anus or she exposes the areola or nipple of her breast or breasts and another person is present, and the defendant is reckless about whether the other person, as a reasonable person, would be offended or alarmed by the act. This does not include public breast-feeding.
The rules for Phoenix 2014 GoTopless Day ask for female attendees to at least wear pasties by the start of the event at 10 a.m. However, male participants are encouraged to do the same.
